Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is a world famous ancient capital and a modern international city. With over 3,000 years of history and more than 800 years as a capital, Beijing is home to numerous historical and cultural sites, such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, and the Great Wall. The terrain of Beijing is mostly flat, with plains in the central area and mountains to the northwest and west, including the Yan Mountains and Western Hills.
